ArcGIS Server Image Extension

ArcGIS Server Image Extension provides fast access to large quantities of file based imagery. It is processed on the fly and on demand.

The Image Extension is particularly useful when you need to deploy imagery enterprise wide to a variety of clients, without preprocessing the data and without loading it into a DBMS.

The Image Extension can dynamically process imagery and provides better image visualisation, reduces storage costs and requires less data processing and maintenance.

ArcGIS Server Image Extension provides the following key features:

  • Fast access to imagery - Access non-preprocessed source data instantaneously, without lengthy load times
  • Ability to process images on the fly - Make data usable almost instantaneously and minimize storage requirements
  • Dynamically Reproject imagery (from for instance NZMG to NZTM)
  • Orthorectification - Dynamically orthorectify raw imagery using image properties and an elevation surface
  • Seamline Generation - Generate and edit seamlines for overlapping image mosaics
  • Effortless distribution to multiple clients - Access multiple image file formats from multiple clients
  • Ability to handle large datasets.

The Image Extension is highly efficient and scalable. By accessing and processing only the pixels required, very high performance is obtained.

A single server machine can handle many simultaneous requests by fully exploiting the multiple cores and threading on a modern server machine.

The architecture enables servers with multiple machines to be set up to handle very high loads.
